Jon's Now Page Updated 3/29/26
So many things, so little time
Despite my misgivings and concerns about AI, the latest version of Claude has become an unlock for me. I've been using it primarily for coding things I don't know how to do.
I have so many small projects that have been delayed because of my developer limitations, and the time it would take me to figure out how to do it poorly. But Claude has proved that it can do them expertly in a matter of minutes.
Glossary.io is an example of that. I've wanted to create a script for my sites that, when linked to a term page, changes the link style and displays a modal tooltip with a short definition. Claude generated the code and improved it beyond what I requested in the first prompt. 🤯
Now I can link to term pages I create on glossary.io, and if the page exists, it will change the link style and display the definition that it parsed from the Schema.org markup in the HTML in a tooltip.
Even with this unlock, most of what I want to do is write, and I don't have any plan to ever use AI for that. I have a strict no AI policy. It's challenging to write even a small percentage of what I want to produce because I have a full-time job (fortunately), I must find time to exercise daily (especially now that I'm in my 50s), and after I do both each day, I'm tired—both my mind and the rest of my body. So most evenings after dinner, I watch TV with my wife. I could be using that time to write, but I don't have it in me as I did in my 20s and 30s, and even in my early 40s
There's something about getting older that makes you realize the hustle doesn't really matter as much anymore. Instead, your mental and physical health, and your relationships, matter most.
So that's where I am. The AI movement that I mostly despise may end up being the unlock I need to create more, but I still feel way behind on what I want to do, and I don't have the motivation to hustle, at least while I have my full-time job, which I want to keep.
This is a now page, and you should consider making one, too.
