Note shared via recollect.fyi

πŸ“‹ Changelog for Recollect Notes App – 09/12/2026

September 12, 2026

Faster, more secure public shared notes

The pages that show a note you've shared publicly β€” and collaboration invites β€” have been rebuilt on a new, lighter foundation. They now render as static HTML, so they load noticeably faster, and they're hardened with a strict security policy for stronger protection. Everything you rely on is still there: download a shared note as Markdown, HTML, or plain text, and report a note. Visiting a share link with no note now sends you to recollect.fyi, and a note that's no longer shared returns a proper "gone" response.

Modernized foundation

Upgraded to React 19.3 across the app, with performance improvements that come along for free. No change to how you use it.

September 11, 2026

Auto-hiding scrollbars on Windows and Linux

Scrollbars now stay hidden until you actually scroll β€” the same clean look macOS has always had β€” on Windows and Linux too.

September 10, 2026

Security hardening

Another thorough round of security hardening across note sharing, real-time collaboration, and the public note pages β€” including stricter access checks and additional safeguards against abuse.

September 7, 2026

Connect Recollect to AI assistants

Recollect now has an official connector (MCP) with secure sign-in, so you can connect your notes to Claude and other AI assistants and let them search, read, and create notes for you β€” with your permission, using your own account. The MCP server URL is https://server.recollect.fyi/mcp.

Search for public and shared notes

Two new search operators β€” is:public and is:shared β€” filter straight to the notes you've made public or shared with others.

September 6, 2026

Alt text for your images

You can now add descriptive alt text to any image in a note, so screen readers and shared-note readers get a meaningful description. Images added from a file get sensible alt text automatically, and older images are backfilled the next time you open the note.

September 5, 2026

Keyboard-key styling

A new inline keyboard-key style (like ⌘K) makes it easy to document shortcuts and keys right in your notes.

September 4, 2026

A head start for new accounts

New accounts now start with a small set of ready-made notes, so there's something to explore from day one.

More room on the Free plan

The Free plan now holds up to 100 notes β€” double the previous 50.

September 1, 2026

Smarter nested checklists

Checking off a checklist item now cascades to its nested sub-items, and completing all of a parent's sub-items checks the parent β€” in both directions β€” so multi-level to-do lists stay in sync.

August 31, 2026

Sort your notes your way

A sort control now lives right in the notes list, with more ways to order your notes β€” including a manual Order you arrange yourself β€” and your choice is remembered.

August 30, 2026

Editors can re-share

Collaborators with edit access can now re-share a note with other people, so you don't have to route every new collaborator through the owner.

August 24, 2026

Contact notes with Contact Garden

If you use Contact Garden, notes you keep on a contact now sync between the two apps β€” including images and files β€” so the same note is available in whichever app you're working in.

Open Recollect links in the installed app

With Recollect installed as an app, links to your notes now open in the app window instead of a new browser tab.

August 22, 2026

Save your Feedbin stars automatically

Connect your Feedbin account and the articles you star are saved into Recollect as bookmark notes automatically, in the background β€” no browser round-trip needed. The manual "save from Feedbin" option is still there as a secondary way to do it.

August 21, 2026

Invite collaborators from your contacts

You can now import your address book to invite people to notes by name, and send those invitations through more email providers β€” Resend, Postmark, Brevo, or any standard SMTP server β€” in addition to SendGrid and Mailgun.

August 20, 2026

Email your share invitations

When you share a note, you can now send the invitation by email through your own email provider, so the person gets a proper message instead of a link you have to copy and send yourself.

August 14, 2026

Accessibility improvements and High Contrast mode

A round of accessibility fixes β€” clearer element names, landmarks, and keyboard navigation β€” plus a new High Contrast mode for better legibility. Notifications also handle the Escape key more predictably, closing one layer at a time.

August 13, 2026

Table of Contents block

Insert a Table of Contents block that automatically lists a note's headings as jump-links and keeps itself up to date as you edit. Headings now go up to five levels (H1–H5).

One color for all your tags

A new appearance setting lets you use a single color for every tag instead of the multicolor palette, if you prefer a calmer look.

Account security hardening

A broad security-hardening pass, plus two account-safety features: change your email address with a confirmation step sent to the new address, and "sign out everywhere" to log out of every device at once. Repeated failed logins are now rate-limited per account.

August 11, 2026

Built for large accounts

Search now returns results instantly even across very large accounts by matching on keywords before every note is fully loaded, and the app comfortably handles accounts with tens of thousands of notes.

August 7, 2026

Import Word, Excel, and more

You can now import documents as notes β€” Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), OpenDocument, RTF, and CSV files β€” alongside the existing Evernote, Apple Notes, and Markdown imports.

August 6, 2026

Smooth note open and close

Opening and closing a note now animates with a subtle transition on supported platforms.

iPhone stability

Fixed a memory issue that could cause the app to reload itself on iPhone during long sessions, and made collaborative syncing more resilient through sleep/resume.

August 5, 2026

Refreshed Settings and Tag management

Settings and Manage Tags now open as fast, focused panels, with Appearance brought to the front and note-card and theme polish throughout.

August 1, 2026

A fresh new look

Recollect has a refreshed visual identity β€” a new teal brand color and logo, a cleaner note background, tighter focus rings, and improved dark-mode colors across the notes list and editor.

July 29, 2026

Get help and report issues in-app

A new Support link takes you straight to the help center (signed in automatically), and you can report a technical issue from within the app if something ever goes wrong.

July 26, 2026

Malware scanning for file attachments

Files you attach to notes are now scanned for malware before they can be downloaded. If a file is flagged, its card is disabled and the download is blocked β€” for you and for anyone you've shared it with β€” and the file's owner is notified. It's an added layer of protection for shared attachments.

July 21, 2026

Pull an article's content into a note

When you save a link β€” from the bookmarklet, a shared URL, or an inbound email β€” Recollect can now extract the article's readable content into the note, not just the link. Turn on "Extract page content" in Settings to enable it.

July 20, 2026

Embed videos

You can now embed YouTube and Vimeo videos in a note by pasting a URL. Vertical videos, like YouTube Shorts, display in their true shape instead of being pillar-boxed.

July 19, 2026

Tag polish

The "Remove tag" popover now appears only when you click an existing tag, not while you're still typing one β€” and adding an inline tag inside a note someone shared with you works reliably.

July 18, 2026

Inline #tags

Type # followed by a word anywhere in a note to create a tag inline β€” press space or enter and it's added to the note's tags, styled as a pill right in your text. Click a tag to remove it. It's the fastest way to tag as you write, and the tags you add this way are instantly searchable.

@Mentions in shared notes

In a note you're sharing with your team, type @ to mention a teammate by name. They'll get a notification linking straight to the note, so it's easy to loop someone in on exactly the spot that needs them.

Better tables

Inserting a table now opens a hover grid so you can pick the exact number of rows and columns before it's created. Tables use just the first row as a header by default (and you can turn headers off), and any table can be switched to full-width to span the note. Inserting on an empty line drops the table right there without adding a blank line above it.

Sharing, refined

Everyone who can open a shared note now sees a clean "People with access" list showing who's on it and their role. You can address a share to a specific person you've shared with before instead of always creating a link, and notes shared within your team show a collaboration icon in the notes list so shared and private notes are easy to tell apart.

July 17, 2026

Recollect for teams

Recollect now has a Team plan: bring your whole team into one shared workspace. Invite teammates by link or by name, manage who's an owner, admin, or member, and add seats as you grow β€” all from a new Team area in Settings. Notes shared within the team open for the right people automatically, with per-person view or edit access.

Team settings and controls

Team owners get org-wide controls: automatically share new notes with the whole team, require two-factor authentication for everyone, turn off sharing outside the team, and set a team photo and name. There's also shared team cloud storage β€” the owner connects storage once for everyone, and can control which members are allowed to export or back up notes.

Switch between accounts

You can now add more than one account and switch between them without signing out β€” handy if you keep a personal account and a team account, or help manage more than one workspace. Your accounts, settings, and sign-out live in a reorganized profile menu.

If a team subscription lapses

Team members see a read-only view of the Team page, and if a subscription lapses the workspace stays manageable with a clear heads-up rather than locking you out.

July 16, 2026

Attach any file by dragging it in

You can now drag any file β€” a PDF, document, spreadsheet, or archive β€” straight onto a note to add it as a file card, the same as picking one from the Insert menu.

Choose how your notes list looks

A new setting lets you pick how much preview text and imagery appears in the notes list, and set your theme (light or dark) either just for this device or synced across all of them.

Find your untagged notes

Typing -# on its own in the filter now shows only the notes that don't have any tags β€” a quick way to find things you meant to organize.

July 15, 2026

Save any page with the bookmarklet

A new Save-to-Recollect bookmarklet lets you save the page you're on as a note straight from your browser's bookmarks bar β€” no extension required.

Deleting your account clears this device

Deleting your account now signs you out and wipes everything cached locally, so nothing is left behind on the device.

July 14, 2026

Dark mode Markdown fixes

Cleaned up Markdown mode in the dark theme β€” the editor background, syntax highlighting contrast, blockquotes, and code blocks all render correctly now.

July 13, 2026

Import from Apple Notes

You can now bring in notes exported from Apple Notes (or any folder of Markdown files), with your formatting, images, and files intact β€” alongside the existing Evernote and backup imports.

Sharper search, with titles that count

Search now gives extra weight to matches in a note's title, so the note you're actually looking for floats to the top. A new intitle: operator lets you match a word only when it appears in the title. Checklist checkboxes also got a subtle bounce when you tick them.

July 12, 2026

Improved note importer

When importing notes, a new modal appears that lists the supported formats and provides a link to instructions for bulk importing notes with images and files. Uploading bulk notes via a zip file triggers file analysis and displays the number of notes and files that will be added. Additionally, initiating a bulk upload displays a progress bar until the import is completed.

Trash and restore deleted notes

Deleting a note now moves it to Trash instead of removing it for good β€” and you can bring it back for 30 days. A new Trash section in Settings lists your deleted notes, each showing when it was trashed and by whom; from there you can view a note read-only, restore it (it comes back exactly as it was, with the same links and tags), or permanently delete it. After 30 days, trashed notes are permanently removed. Any files stored in your cloud storage are moved to a "Trash" folder rather than deleted, so nothing disappears unexpectedly.

Note version history

Recollect now saves a snapshot of each note at the end of every editing session β€” whenever you, or someone you've shared it with, closes the note. Open Note Versions from the note's footer to browse past snapshots, each labeled with its date and who saved it. View any snapshot as a read-only note, then either overwrite the current note with that version or spin it off into a brand-new note. Snapshots are kept for 30 days.

July 11, 2026

Push notifications

Recollect can now send notifications to your device β€” turn them on per-device in Preferences. You'll be notified about activity on your shared notes and requests for access, with quick actions to view or dismiss right from the notification.

Import from Evernote

You can now bring your Evernote notes into Recollect: export an .enex file from Evernote and import it with your formatting, images, files, and tags intact. A tag picker lets you decide how imported tags are applied. (Importing files requires cloud storage to be connected.)

Automatic image hosting and more image formats

Images that come in from imported notes or Markdown links are now automatically copied into your own image storage, so they keep working even if the original source goes away β€” you'll see a brief "Getting image" state while each one transfers. Recollect now also accepts AVIF, JPEG XL, and HEIC/HEIF photos, and your backups always export the original, full-quality image files.

Drag to rearrange blocks

Images, code blocks, file attachments, and tables are now full blocks you can grab and drag to reorder anywhere in a note, with a line showing exactly where the block will land.

A sticky notes count and actions bar

The notes count stays pinned to the top of the list as you scroll β€” and in Bulk Edit mode, the selection actions bar stays with it so it's always within reach.

Open-source credits

The About section in Settings now lists the open-source projects Recollect is built on.

July 10, 2026

Write in Markdown

A new WYSIWYG ⇄ Markdown toggle (turn it on in Settings) lets you switch a note into raw Markdown and back β€” type Markdown directly, then flip back to the formatted view whenever you like.

Powerful search for your notes

The notes filter is now a full search: match individual words or exact "phrases", combine them with #tags, and use operators to narrow things down. It's faster and more precise, with friendlier placeholder text and a one-click clear button once a filter is active.

Standardize your tag capitalization

A new Tags setting lets you choose how tags are capitalized β€” leave them exactly as typed, or automatically normalize to Title Case, lowercase, or UPPERCASE. The choice applies as you create tags, and a one-time cleanup tidies your existing tags and syncs the change across your devices (without mangling acronyms or brand names).

Instant, reliable settings

Settings toggles now respond instantly and quietly revert if a change doesn't save, and a stray "offline" banner no longer flashes during brief connection blips. Note titles and tag counts also got sensible size limits to keep everything fast.

July 9, 2026

Two-factor authentication and passkeys

You can now secure your account with optional two-factor authentication β€” an authenticator app or emailed codes β€” and sign in with passkeys. Backup codes are provided in case you ever lose access to your second factor.

Email verification at sign-up

New sign-ups now confirm their email address before the account is created, and disposable email domains are turned away.

July 8, 2026

Protection against duplicated content

Added safeguards that prevent β€” and automatically repair β€” a rare issue where a paragraph or block could get duplicated during collaborative editing.

Safer automatic cleanup

Unused images and files now have to stay unreferenced for several days before they're cleaned up, so an attachment you just removed is never deleted prematurely.

July 6, 2026

Code block fix

Fixed a rare case where syntax highlighting could duplicate a code block's contents.

July 5, 2026

More resilient editing and syncing

Your note now stays editable through brief connection drops instead of momentarily locking up, and Recollect clearly warns you β€” with a one-click Reload β€” if your changes aren't syncing to the cloud. Freshly-uploaded images show a pending state instead of a broken icon while they finish processing, and behind the scenes the collaboration server gained a memory safety net so long sessions stay stable.

July 4, 2026

Syntax highlighting improvements

Code blocks now include a "Plain Text" option, your enabled highlighting languages sync across your devices, and the language picker no longer paints behind the next block. Existing setups are left as they are.

Bulk Edit polish

The Bulk Edit actions bar now has a clear exit button, and bulk export now saves exactly the notes you've selected.

July 3, 2026

Add files to your notes

You can now attach files to your notes β€” PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, images, and more β€” right alongside your text. Files are stored in your own Backblaze B2 cloud storage, which you connect in Settings β†’ Files, so your data stays entirely under your control (B2 offers 10 GB free). Add a file from the Insert menu or the "/" slash menu, then download it or copy a link anytime. Files also work in notes you share publicly.

Automatic backups

With cloud storage connected, Recollect can automatically back up all of your notes on a schedule you choose β€” daily, weekly, or monthly, at a time of day that suits you β€” plus a "Back up now" button whenever you want one. Each backup is saved as a timestamped file in your storage and can be re-imported at any time.

Bulk edit your notes

A new Bulk Edit mode β€” turn it on from the Settings menu β€” lets you act on many notes at once. Check the notes you want (or Select All, which respects your current filter), then delete them, add or remove tags across all of them, or export just those notes. Press Esc to exit.

Preview images in the notes list

The notes list now shows preview images to help you find things at a glance: a link preview for your bookmarks, and a note's own first image for everything else. Both are on by default and can be turned off in Settings.

Bookmarks settings and blocking users

Bookmarks now has its own page in Settings. And you can now block another person β€” removing them from notes you've shared and preventing them from sharing notes with you.

June 29, 2026

More reliable notes list and syncing

Improvements to real-time syncing so your notes list stays up to date as notes change across your devices and collaborative sessions, including fixes that keep the list refreshing reliably and reduce background resource use during long editing sessions.

Instant sign-out

Signing out now takes you to the sign-in screen right away and clears your cached data in the background β€” with a progress indicator if you have a large number of notes.

Guardrails for very large notes and accounts

To keep notes quick to open and sync, a live character count now appears once a note grows very large, with a heads-up before it reaches the maximum size. Accounts also have high note limits that only matter in extreme cases β€” 50 notes on the Free plan and 10,000 on Premium.

June 28, 2026

Edit any note offline

Building on offline support, you can now edit your existing notes β€” not just create new ones β€” while disconnected. Recollect pre-loads your notes so any of them opens and edits instantly, and changes sync automatically when you reconnect. A brief connection drop also no longer signs you out or loses an unsynced edit.

View and add images offline

Images already in your notes now display while you're offline, and images you add offline upload automatically once you're back online.

Tag note counts and re-tagging

The notes list now shows how many notes use each tag, and deleting a tag lets you move its notes to another tag first.

Smoother imports and long notes

Imported notes now turn plain web addresses into clickable links automatically, and a quick scroll-to-top control makes long notes easier to navigate.

June 27, 2026

Redesigned sharing with view-only and edit roles

Note sharing has a redesigned options panel where you can share a note as view-only or with full edit access. Read-only collaborators can request edit access, and you can grant it in a click β€” the note opens for them automatically.

Transfer note ownership

You can now hand off ownership of a shared note to a collaborator, with the change taking effect in real time.

June 26, 2026

Profile photos

You can now set a profile photo β€” upload your own, or import your existing Gravatar image. Either way the photo is then stored and served by Recollect itself (Gravatar is only the one-time source, not where the image is hosted), and it appears on your account and alongside your name in shared notes.

Redesigned notifications

Notifications have a cleaner layout, and you can request and grant access to shared notes directly from them.

June 25, 2026

Link to other notes and to headings

You can now link from one note to another, and to a specific heading within a note β€” handy for building an index or cross-referencing. Links are underlined for clarity, and a "Go back" control appears after you follow one.

App icon fixes

Fixed the Recollect app icon on the macOS dock and the iPhone home screen.

June 24, 2026

Export a note to PDF

You can now export a note to PDF, with its images embedded and proper page margins.

Security improvements

A round of security hardening across the app.

iPhone sync fix

Fixed notes you deleted sometimes reappearing on iPhone after reopening the app.

June 23, 2026

Fewer blank notes when opening

Fixed cases where a note could briefly appear blank when first opened, and made collaborative connections cleaner and more reliable.

June 22, 2026

"/" slash menu for inserting blocks

On a new empty line, type / to open a quick menu for inserting headings, lists, quotes, dividers, images, and tables β€” a faster, Notion-style way to build out a note. Type to filter, use the arrow keys to choose, and Esc to dismiss.

Smarter link editing

Adding or editing a link no longer freezes the editor, and adding a link to selected text now opens the editor ready for you to type the address. On mobile, the link field brings up the URL-optimized keyboard.

Log out clears your data on this device

Logging out now removes everything cached on the device β€” notes, tags, images, and settings β€” so nothing is left behind on a shared or public computer. Logging back in restores it all from the server.

New-note improvements

Creating a note now drops your cursor straight into the title, typing continues in the title as expected, and on iPhone the keyboard opens automatically.

Opening a note no longer reshuffles your list

Just opening a note no longer bumps it to the top of "Latest Modified" β€” only an actual edit does.

Update notifications and an About section

When a new version ships while you have Recollect open, you'll get a prompt to update (and it applies automatically when you log back in). Settings now has an About section showing your current version and release date.

More reliable realtime collaboration

Upgraded the realtime engine so collaborative sessions reconnect faster and recover on their own after a dropped connection, and fixed a case where accepting a shared note could briefly fail to open.

Billing fixes

The "Manage Plan" button works reliably, and subscriptions now activate dependably right after checkout.

Tables in public shared notes

Tables on publicly shared note pages now render at the correct width.

Modernized foundation

Behind-the-scenes upgrades to the core technologies Recollect runs on, to keep the app fast, secure, and reliable. No change to how you use it.

June 21, 2026

Add images to notes while offline

You can now attach images to notes even while disconnected; they upload automatically in the background once you're back online.

Table sizing, resizing, and a crash fix

Tables now size to fit their content and can be resized by dragging, Markdown-imported tables render correctly, and a rare crash when moving the cursor off a table (notably on iPhone) is fixed.

June 20, 2026

More reliable sharing and sync

Fixed a case where accepting a shared note could fail with "note not added," stopped unexpected sign-outs caused by brief network blips, and stopped the notes list from cycling or duplicating content after unsharing.

"Add Note to Recollect" opens in the same tab

Adding a shared note to your account now stays in the current tab instead of opening a new one.

June 19, 2026

Offline editing for all your notes

Every note now runs on the realtime editing engine with an instant local cache, so notes load immediately, keep working when you're offline, and sync automatically when you reconnect. (On iPhone, the system can clear cached data under storage pressure β€” an inherent limitation of mobile browsers.)

Shared-note loading fixes

Fixed shared and collaborative notes occasionally appearing blank or read-only the first time you opened them.

June 18, 2026

Export and import your notes

You can now export all your notes β€” full formatting, tags, and images β€” as a single self-contained backup file, and import it back later. An exported backup restores even if the original images are later deleted, and re-importing your own backup won't create duplicates.

Editor and table improvements

Press the right-arrow key to step out of inline code at the end of a line, Markdown tables keep their column alignment when imported or exported, images keep their aspect ratio on narrow screens, and table spacing is more consistent.

Cleaner note sharing

Sharing a note no longer creates a duplicate copy in an account that already has it.

Safer automatic image cleanup

Improved cleanup of unused images so anything still referenced by your notes is never removed by mistake, with a grace period for recently uploaded images.

Password masking on sign-up

The password field on the sign-up form is now masked.

December 31, 2025

Bookmarks

Added a Bookmarks section in Settings that controls which notes display the external-link icon on their preview in the notes list.

November 16, 2025

Real-time collaboration

Added real-time collaboration, so you can share a note and edit it together with others as changes appear live.

External-link icon in the notes list

Notes that contain at least one URL now show an external-link icon on their preview in the notes list.

April 11, 2025

Dark theme for shared notes

Shared notes now support the dark theme.

Table fixes

Removed the excess padding at the bottom of table cells, and wide tables now scroll horizontally instead of breaking the note layout. (A newly reported bug in the underlying open-source editor may still cause issues in some cases.)

Inline code formatting

Applying Code to selected text now wraps it in an inline <code> tag instead of moving the text into a separate code block.

Smaller fixes and tweaks

Fixed the vertical alignment of text next to checkboxes, removed the flipped-page design element from the top-right of the mobile note view, and updated the account name to show your full name instead of your first name followed by "Account."

March 21, 2025

Images in notes

You can now drag and drop images onto notes and resize them.

Table editing

Added table editing options to add or remove columns and rows, resize, and more.

Editor improvements

Links no longer navigate away when you click them while editing a note, and typing three hyphens (---) followed by a space now creates a horizontal divider.

Evenly distributed tag colors

New tags now cycle through the color palette instead of being assigned at random, so colors are spread out more evenly.

Notes list hover state

Added a lighter hover color in the notes list so it's easier to tell the selected note from the one you're hovering over.

Dark theme fixes

Various dark theme fixes.
